Sexing The Transman screened last week at a Transgender Film Festival in Italy. It is not a big festival like Cannes but it sure makes me feel happy that it is still making the festival rounds after a year.
The other thing that makes me really happy is how amazing the feedback has been. WOW! Really I would have never imagined that people would say such awesome things about this film. You ask why? Well because I put some sex scenes in it. I know how uncomfortable people can be with sex and then to have to sit through and watch in a public space can really make people feel weird.
That is why it’s so awesome that it broke through the barrier of mainstream festivals. It has SEX in it!! I added these scenes because I wanted people to view what it is like for us trans guys to have sex freely and feel our bodies the way everyone else does, and without shame. After reading this review by a cisgendered ( bio ) manI knew I had done what I set out to do.
It made me feel so proud to read this.
“Some of the initial explicit sex scenes embarrassed me, especially the scenes of the couples (Sean and Dan, Buck and Fallen). I felt that the explicit sex scenes detracted from the film. If I was watching this film at home, probably I would have switched it off at that point. Fortunately I was not at home, but in a cinema hall and so I could not switch it off. After watching the full film, looking back, I feel that without those scenes, I would not have understood half as much. Or that I would have understood what it means to be a FtM guy only in theoretical/rational terms and not in emotional terms.”
The rest of the review is just as good. This guy totally got it. Amazing.
Please take the time to read it if you can. I really feel like you could gain so much from it. I did.
